ABOUT MICHAEL

Hello, I am Michael Henkin, a 26-year-old always hungry geographer.

I was born and raised in the eastside of Cleveland, Ohio. Besides my parents, I have an older sister and a twin brother. My family means the world to me.

I received my BA in Geography and Environmental Science at Miami University in the best college town of Oxford, OH. I also got by MA in Geography where I composed my thesis: "A Biophysical Analysis of Forest Diversity Patterns at Mt. Kasigau, Kenya". I traveled to Kenya three times due my studies which also helped strengthen my geographical perspective on life.

I spent a year in New York City living on the Rockaway Peninsula at Fort Tilden where I had a one year internship with the National Park Service surveying marshes in Jamaica Bay. I fell in love with NYC, particularly Brooklyn and met some amazing people.

My main passions in life are travel, food, drinks and helping others. Other hobbies and interests include hiking, being lazy on a beach or pool, snorkeling, music, movies and art. I'd like to consider myself cultured and I am increasingly becoming a world traveler (check out the where have we been page). I am very fortunate to have a partner (Lisa) who has very similar interests and the almost constant support of my family to pursue my dreams of travel and my no collar attitude.

OUR STORY: ABOUT LISA AND MICHAEL

Michael had a feeling when he started grad school that he would meet someone very special, someone to share many adventures with. Lisa and Michael first met when Lisa visited Miami for a quick trip as a prospective grad student, where Michael was already in his first year. Fast forward a few months and on one of the first nights out in Oxford, they drunkingly shook hands in the agreement that they would always hang out and do fun stuff since they were young and loved to have fun. That handshake sparked a year of strong friendship and growing romantic feelings. Eventually, Michael finally got the courage to ask Lisa out and the rest is history as they say. Their shared passions and enthusiasm for exploration has created a very strong bond. You can usually find them walking around neighborhoods, hiking on nature trails, trying new foods and drinking adult beverages or sometimes just at home watching Netflix with a bottle of wine.
